CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS - May 8, 2009

Good Evening, Everybody!

This week's Chicago Neighborhood News, courtesy of our Team Member Cathy Mallers, covers the Chicago Neighborhoods of Lakeview, Lincoln Park, The Loop, and Ravenswood, and the Chicago Suburb of Oak Park IL.

Got something special happening in any Chicago Neighborhood or Suburb?  Let us know, and we'll help spread the word!  Dean's Team is proud to have the Number One Rated Active Rain Blog in the City of Chicago, and across Cook County IL.

LAKEVIEW

Sometimes we locals forget about the fabulous food finds we have in our own neighborhoods.

One such gem is Mia Francesca at 3311 N. Clark in the Lakeview neighborhood.  This is the flagship location and the food is really worth the wait.

LINCOLN PARK

The weather is finally cooperating and with that comes one of our favorite offerings in Lincoln Park, Green City Market.

The market is open from 7am - PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting today.  Located at the south end of Lincoln Park between Clark Street and Stockton Drive, the market will stay open through October 31st.

THE LOOP

Chicago's $15.5 billion proposal to rejuvenate and expand transportation, parks and commercial space downtown is moving forward.

A part of this expansion will include a new West Loop Transportation Center, four levels underground that would connect commuter and intercity rail, CTA rapid transit and newly created Central Area transit ways.

RAVENSWOOD

Jane Addams of Hull House fame will be recognized in an exhibit at University of Illinois Chicago's Jane Addams Hull House Museum.

The National Endowment for the Humanities gave $350,000 for the exhibit and will be used to recreate Addams' second-floor bedroom - previously closed to the public.

OAK PARK

Are you a model train buff?  If so, then you need to check out the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers Railroad Club.

The Club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Oak Park Public Library's Dole Education Center building on West Division Street.
